Sub Ohm Vaping, also known as simply "Sub-Ohming" gets its name from the actual coil inside the tank of the system itself. The coil is inside the atomizer and is the part that actually heats up and vaporizes the liquid when you take a puff from your e-cig device. Sub-Ohm coils are any which have a resistance rating under 1.
Sub-Ohm vaping works by increasing the power to the atomizer. As you increase the resistance (by lowering the total ohms) in the coil you are increasing the total amperage overall. The result is more power from your device and much more vapor production. We're not talking 2 or 3 times the amount of vapor per puff. We're talking more like 30 to 40 times the vapor depending on the device. The Reactor, for example creates so much vapor you won't be able to see through the cloud when exhaling. The Triton II is more of a middle of the road sub-ohm system. It looks and behaves exactly like a vape pen, but creates much more vapor than a standard vape pen.
Sub-Ohm batteries are typically much more powerful than typical e-cigarette batteries. They usually have at least 30 watts of power but some go much higher than that. These batteries come in many shapes, from our vape pen style Triton II to our Reactor box mod style systems with variable voltage and temperature controls. Although variable controls aren't required, they do allow you to personalize your vaping experience from one e-juice to the next. The Tracer tube mod kit houses a large high wattage battery and produces huge clouds of vapor, but doesn't have any of the variable controls, and the physical device isn't as big as other systems so it's great for folks who are always on the go.
When using sub-ohm coils on a sub-ohm system substantially more vapor is produced when compared to coils above 1 ohm. Typically sub-ohm vapors take lung hits, meaning they inhale directly into their lungs increasing the amount of vapor they can inhale in each puff. These sub-ohm vapes also prefer e-liquid to be in a high VG (vegetable glycerin) blend, such as our HIGH VG ONO e-juice, as it creates more dense vapor clouds. VG juice blends also have a reduced throat hit compared to normal PG blends. Because of the additional vapor being produced and inhaled usually those vaping on sub-ohm systems will also lower the nicotine strengths they would typically use in regular vaping devices to those under 6mg per ml.
Sub-Ohm vaping systems are not all created equal. There are many sub-ohm devices that have no regulation of the total amperage. These unregulated systems can be very unsafe. Our batteries shut off power in case of a short, and they have manual shut-off's as well to keep them safe while riding in your purse or pocket. But just as with all e-cigarettes and vaping devices the user must protect the battery from day to day wear. Keep your batteries clean, keep them safely turned off when in pockets or purses, and always store them in a cool dry place.
